Check out the latest work by our very own Ocean Guardians.
Last weekend, Saturday April 19, the student team and their families and other volunteers came to place mulch around the plants. Mulch helps retain water in the soil, and is a weed suppressant. This mulching session tied in nicely to Earth Day celebrations this week!
Then, on Wednesday April 23, some of the team presented their project to the LCMSD School Board.
We are so proud of these 4th and 5th grade students who have been learning about leadership amongst the backdrop of native plants and what it takes to create a healthy watershed.
We are hoping to extend this program to our third year - so look out incoming 4th and 5th graders if you'd like to be part of this program!
May activities will include:
Student-led tours during the Spring Social and Plant Sale May 9
Participation in the Eco-Friendly Garden Tour on May 10, organized by the Sonoma-Marin Saving Water Partnership, showcasing their NOAA Ocean Guardian projects. Register for a FREE ticket!
All-School Assembly Presentation on May 30
Here's the NOAA team presenting to the LCMSD Board on April 23
The club will conclude its transformative year on June 5th, assessing their accomplishments and planning next year's environmental initiatives.
About Ocean Guardian Club
The Neil Cummins Ocean Guardian Club empowers elementary students to become environmental leaders through hands-on projects that protect watersheds and ocean ecosystems. The club operates under the guidance of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and their Ocean Guardian School Program, a designation Neil Cummins has maintained for the past two years.
Well done Ocean Guardians!
