This week, our fifth graders took a deep dive into the world of seeds! They started with a classroom Seed Study, by dissecting a seed. Then, they headed to the garden for some hands-on learning, planting their own seeds and getting a close-up look at nature in action.
In addition to their seed investigations, students also planted tomato seeds for our upcoming Plant Sale at the Spring Social, using a creative mini-greenhouse made from milk bottles.
Want to try making one at home?
🧴 Take an old milk container
✂️ Have a grown-up help cut three sides so it opens
🛠️ Use a screwdriver to poke drainage holes in the bottom
📦 Add soil, water, and your seeds - we've been using a selection of flowers and tomatoes so far
🔖 Tape it closed and watch your plants grow!
Repot the seedlings when they grow large enough
Be sure to visit the garden during the Spring Social to pick up a student-planted plant and support our young gardeners!
